RATISBON, rät'ĭs-bōn (REGENSBURG, rā'gĕns-boorg), Bavaria, Germany, 82 miles by rail northeast of Munich, partakes of the artistic tendencies of the latter. Chief among its public buildings and institutions are the Gothic cathedral, library, art-gallery, seminaries and glass-staining factory. Trade, facilitated by its favorable position on the Danube, is considerable. Ratishon suffered much from bombardments at various periods of its history, especially in 1809, when it was stormed by the French. It became a free port in 18S3. Pop. (1910) 52,624.
