ROTHROCK, Joseph Trimble, American botanist: b. McVeyton, Pa. 9 April 1839. He was graduated at Harvard in 1864, and took his M.D. at the University of Pennsylvania in 1867. He served in the Civil War and was wounded at Fredericksburg. He was professor of botany at the University of Pennsylvania in 1877-93; commissioner of forestry for Pennsylvania in 1893-1905; and in 1905-08 he was superintendent of the State Sanatorium for Consumptives, South Mountain Camp. Author of ‘Flora of Alaska’ (1867); ‘Botany of the Wheeler Expedition’ (1878); ‘Vacation Cruisings’ (1884); ‘Pennsylvania Forest Reports’ (1895-97), etc.
