SCHULMAN, shool'mạn, Samuel, American rabbi: b. Russia, 14 Feb. 1864. He came to America as a child, was graduated at the College of the City of New York in 1885 and studied at the University of Berlin in 1885-89. He was rabbi at Helena, Mont., in 1890-93; at Kansas City, Mo., in 1893-99; and since 1899 has been rabbi of Temple Beth-El, New York. He was a member of the board of editors for the English translation of the Bible for the Synagogue; a contributor to the ‘Jewish Encyclopedia’; and is author of articles on religious topics.
