VOLKMANN, Wilhelm Fridolin, Ritter von Volkmar, German philosopher: b. 1821; d. 1877. He was born and educated at Prague, where he later was made professor of philosophy. He is probably the most conspicuous expounder of the general principles of Herbart's psychology. These are set forth in his ‘Lehrbuch der Psychologie’ (3d ed., by Cornelius, 1884-85).
