The Secretary of State for the Environment, upon consideration of proposals made to him by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England and in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by paragraph 1(2) of Schedule 3 of the Local Government Act 1972 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following order in the terms of a draft approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:—
Title and commencement
1. This order may be cited as the English Non-metropolitan Districts (Definition) Order 1972 and shall come into operation on 1st February 1973.
Interpretation
2.—(1) The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of this order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
"the Secretary of State" means the Secretary of State for the Environment.
Definition of districts
3. The non-metropolitan county named in each Part of the Schedule to this order shall be divided into the districts identified by reference numbers in column (1) of that Part and each such district shall comprise the areas specified in respect thereof (by reference to administrative areas existing immediately before the passing of the Act) in column (2) of that Part.
