Death of Sir Arthur William Rucker.
The death took place to-day at Everington House, Newbury, Berks, of Sir Arthur Wm. Rucker, F.R.S, D.Sc., LL.D., late Principal of the University of London, aged 67.
Deceased was born on the 23d October, 1845. He was the eldest son of Mr. D. H. Rucker, Errington, Clapham Park. He was educated at Clapham Grammar School and Oxford. He has held many prominent positions in Universities and he contested North Leeds in the Liberal interests in 1895, and as a Liberal in the Pudsey Division of Yorkshire in 1886.
Among the positions held were those of treasurer of the British Association from 1891 to 1898, president of the Physical Society from 1893 to 1895, secretary of the Royal Society 1896-1901, and president of the British Association in 1901. He was one of the Carnegie Trustees for the Universities of Scotland and was on the Board of Trade Committee on sight tests in 1908. He has published many books, He was created a Knight in 1902.
