Bir Mitradaya Singh Deo, Maharaja of Sonpur; b, 1874: succeeded, 1902; area of the State, 906 squire miles; population, about 170,000; revenue, Rs. 1,20,000; claims descent from Madan Gopal, son of the 4th Raja of Sambalpur who conquered the State about the year 1556. The grand-father of the present Ruler helped the British in the Sambulpur insurrection, and obtained the title of Raja Bahadur, Maharaja, 1908. Address: Sonpur, Sambalpur district, Bengal Presidency.
