Bishun Narayan Dhar, Pandit, Bar-at-Law; Ex-President, Indian National Congress (1911): Member, Imperial Legislative Council, 1914; born, 1864; Educated privately at the Church Mission High School and Canning College, Lahore; proceeded to England, and joined the Middle Temple and was called to the Bar in due course. On his return to India, he found he had to meet with some opposition in the matter of his re-admittance into his caste, but this difficulty was eventually overcome; belongs to a respectable Kashmiri family of Lucknow. His father held a responsible post under the Government; while his uncle, Pundit Shambhu Nath, was the first Indian Judge of the Calcutta High Court; his grandfather Pundit Hari Ram Dhar, was the Royal Akhbar Navis at Calcutta, under the old Oudh Court; Joined the Indian National Congress in 1887 when it held its Session at Madras and his speech on that occasion was much appreciated and received encomiums from the late Raja Sir T. Madhava Row, C.I.E. and others. A practical social reformer and a friend of Compulsary education; an eloquent speaker and a powerful writer; was President of the United Provincial Conference held at Bareilly, 1911.
