Gibbs, H. P., M.A.I.E.E., M.I.E.E., Chief Electrical Engineer to Government of Mysore (Retd.); Consulting Electrical Engineer, Mysore; Chief Electrical Engineer, Tata Hydro-Electric Works, Bombay; b. Westfield, Mass, U.S.A., 1871; educ: Westfield Public School; attended a business college at Worcester; studied Electrical and Mechanical Engineering privately; acquired knowledge of general Telephone work at Adams, Mass., U.S.A., and was for 3 years at Washburn and Moen Wire Works, Worcester; joined the General Electric Company, and went through expert course, 1893; worked as Electrical Expert and Constructing Engineer for nearly 7 years in U.S.A., and nearly 2 years in Mexico; sent out to India by the General Electric Company, U.S.A.; succeeded Mr. Ekstrom as Chief Electrical Engineer, Cauvery Power Scheme; joined the Mysore State service as the Chief Electrical Engineer, 1903; deputed by the Mysore Government to visit U.S.A. in connection with the 2nd installation of the Cauvery Power Scheme, August 1903; returned to Mysore and carried out the work in connection with the scheme and was specially thanked by the Government, 1904; again thanked by the Mysore Government for the efficient and expeditious manner in which he did his work in connection with the installation of the Cauvery Power scheme; once more thanked by the Government for the excellent arrangement made by him in connection with the reception of T.R.H. the Prince and Princess of Wales at Mysore and Bangalore, 1906; services re-engaged by the Mysore Government after the expiry of the original agreement, July 1906; designed and carried out the work for the supply of Electric lighting and power for Bangalore and Mysore cities, besides carrying out the Electric installations at the palaces at Mysore and Ootacamund; appointed Consulting Engineer, Kolar Gold Fields Mining Company, 1905; designed and carried out large Electrical Winding schemes for the company; is an 18th Degree Mason, Past Master Lodge United Service, E.G., Bangalore; Captain, Bangalore Rifle Volunteers.
