Kalahasti, Raja of; Raja Damara Kuniara Timmanayanim Bahadur Garu; a.s. of late Raja Akkappa Nayanim Bahadur Garu; educ; privately. The estate, which is one of the ancient Zemindaries in the Presidency of Madras, lies scattered in the three districts of Nellore, Chittoor, and Chingleput; has an annual revenue of about 6 lakhs, but is greatly encumbered. It was for some time under the management of the Court of Wards. The town of Kalahasti which is the residence of the Raja, contains a temple dedicated to Siva known here as Vayu Linga. In point of sanctitty, Kalahivsti ranks next to Benares, and the annual festival in the temple commencing from Sivarathri is attended by hundreds from far and near.
