Woolwich; joined Royal Artillery, 1871; Indian Staff Corps, 1877; served in 2nd and 16th Bengal Cavalry; entered the Punjab Commission, 1879; special duty in Kurrum Valley, 1880; Political Officer, 1st and 2nd Miranzai Expeditions, 1891; was a Commissioner in the Punjab.
