Emily, d. of late Henry William Dobell (some time Comptroller-General of H.M. Customs); educ: Royal Grammar School, Lancaster; privately in England and abroad, and at R.M.A., Woolwich; entered R.E , 1864; rose to the rank of Colonel, 1895; served as Brigadier-General, Engineer-in-Chief with the Tirah Expedition, 1897-98 (despatches, medal and two clasps); formerly Inspector General of Irrigation in India; President, R.I.E. College, 1899-1907; Knight of the Grace of the Order of Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. Address; Leyton, Eastbourne. Club: United Service.
