Campbell Bannermann), 1892-95; Secretary to the Governor-General of Canada, 1896-97; Secretary for Scotland and sometimes Keeper of Government Seal of the Principality of Scotland, 1905; Vice-President of the Committee of Council of Education in Scotland; unsuccessfully contested for Aier District, 1886; represented Dumbartonshire, 1892-93, when he was defeated; and for Perforshire, 1837-1909; m.
