Porbandar, Rana of; H.H. Shri Natvarsinghji Bhava Shinghji; s. of late Rana H.H. Sheri Vikramatji Khimatji; b. 1868; is a Jethwa Rajaput and claims descent from Hanuman; the State came under British control in 1807 when the then Raja entered into the usual engagements; the present Rana holds a sanad authorising him to adopt in case of failure of male line; area of the State, 636 sq. miles; population, 80,000; revenue, over 9 lakhs; pays tribute also to the Gaekwar of Baroda and the Nawab of Junagarh; the State is noted for a peculiar sort of lime-stone which is its chief export; the lime-stone is said to contain such properties of cohesion that houses are built of it without the use of mortar, the whole becoming a solid mass after rain falls on it; the State is a first class one, and the Rana is entitled to a salute of 11 guns.
