Ratton, Surgeon-Major James Joseph Louis, M.D., M.R.C.S., I.M.S., (retired); joined service as Assistant Surgeon, 1867; served in the Abyssinian Expedition, and won a medal; Civil Surgeon, Central Provinces, 1869-70; on special duty in connection with the manufacture of salt, 1872 — 76; again on special duty in connection with the famine relief works, 1876; Surgeon and Superintendent of Central Jail, Chittoor (Madras Presidency), 1877; Surgeon, General Hospital, and Professor, Medical College, Madras, 1885; Fellow, University of Madras, 1866; retired, 1888. Publications: Hand-book on Common Salt; Treatise on Tetanus; Syllabus of Surgery.
