Vidya Sagar Pandya, Secretary, Indian Bank, Ltd., Madras; s. of Pandit Basant Ram, who was the first to open a firm of auditors under the name of “Basant Ram and Sons” in the Punjab; b. at Multan, 1876; belongs to a family of hereditary Accountants, Dealers and Bankers financing Governments and the aristocracy; educ: at the Hindu College, Vizagapatam; Christian College, Lahore, and the Government College, Lahore; joined the firm of Basant Ram and Sons, as partner, 1898; joined the Peoples’ Bank of India, Karachi, as Manager, 1903; Manager of the Bank’s Head,Office at Lahore, 1905; opened the first indigenous Banking Institution in Bombay, 1906; came to Madras to inaugurate the Indian Bank, Ltd., 1907; Secretary, Indian Bank, Ltd., Madras, 1907; one of the founders of the Southern India Chamber of Commerce, Madras; a professional photographer while at Lahore; has obtained many medals and Khillats from the Punjab Government, 1902; also Photo-engraver; m. 1891; Member of the National Fund and Industrial Association, and of the Provincial Congress Committee, Madras.
