Chief Justice, Madras (retired); s. of Thomas John White of Bowdon, Cheshire; b. 1858; educ: New College, Oxford; B.A., 1881; called to Bar (Inner Temple), 1883; Advocate-General and M.L.C., Madras, 1898; became Chief Justice, Madras High Court, 1899; Fellow, Madras University; Vice-Chancellor, Madras University, 1904-05; President, S.P.C.A., Madras; an active member of the Madras Agri-Horticultural Association; retired, 1914; appointed as member of the Council of India, London, June 1915.
