Frontier, 1863; Bhutan Campaign, 1865; Abyssinian Expedition, 1868; Hazara Expedition, 1868; on special duty in Beluchistan, 1877; Afghan Campaign, 1878-80; Assistant to Resident in Mysore, 1882; Secretary to Chief Commissioner, Coorg, 1882-85; Political Agent at Bhawalpur, Jhalawar and Bhopal; became Major-General, 1889; Resident in Nepal, 1898-1900; Officiating Agent to Governor-General, in Beluchistan, 1900; retired, 1905.
