Younghusband, Lt.-Colonel Sir Francis Edward, K.C.I.E.,(1904), C.I.E., (1891), D.Sc, LL.D., F.R.G.S., Indian Political department (retired); 2nd s. of late Major General J. W. Younghusband; b. at Murree, 1863; educ: at Clifton and Sandhurst; joined the Army in the 1st Dragoon Guards, 1882; became Captain, 1889; transferred to Political Department, 1890; Major, Indian Staff Corps, 1900; Lieutenant-Colonel, 1908; visited Manchuria, 1886; travelled from Peking to India via Chinese Turkestan, 1887; Political Officer, Hunza, 1892; ‘Times’ Special Correspondent in Chitral Expedition, 1895; Transvaal and Rhodesia, 1896-7; Political Agent in Rajputana, 1898; Agent, Central India, etc., 1902-3; British Commissioner, Tibet, 1900-4; Resident at Kashmir, 1906-9.
