The Million Pound Bank Note is a story about how Henry Adams lands up in London, penniless and famished. Subsequently, he is given a million pound note by two old gentlemen who have a £20,000 bet on him. Henry realizes the danger of his inexplicable posessession of the note while appearing as a pauper—eventually revealed as the subject of the bet—but his cunning instead lands him instant celebrity as the talk of the town. At the end, Gordon wins the bet between the two brothers.
