BRENTANO, Franz (1838—). A German philosopher, born in Marienberg. He was for a time a professor of philosophy in Würzburg, and from 1874 to 1880 in Vienna. His works comprise Psychologie des Aristoteles (Mainz, 1867); Psychologie vom empirischen Standpunkt (Leipzig, 1879); and Neue Rätsel (Vienna, 1878).
