CONSTANTINE (1868–), Duke of Sparta, Crown Prince of Greece. He was born in Athens, and studied at the universities of Berlin and Leipzig. In 1889 he married the Princess Sophia of Prussia, sister of Emperor William II. He was appointed commander-in-chief of the Greek troops operating against the Turkish forces under Edhem Pasha, in Thessaly, in March, 1897, and conducted the retreat from Dhomokos in May of that year.
