DROWN, Thomas Messinger (1842-1904). An American chemist and educator. After a prolonged course of study at the best scientific schools in the United States and at two European, universities, he was appointed instructor in metallurgy at Harvard, and later professor of analytical chemistry at Lafayette College. From 1885 to 1895 he held the same chair at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1895 he was called to the presidency of Lehigh University.
