EICHENS, Philipp Hermann (1812-86). A German-French lithographer, brother of the preceding, born in Berlin and educated at the Berlin Academy, under W. Hensel, and in Paris. From 1839 to 1841 he traveled in Italy and subsequently studied mezzotint engraving in Berlin. His works reveal delicate treatment, careful attention to details, and a thorough mastery of the technique of art. They include “Joconde” (after Leonardo da Vinci); “Shooting at the Target” (Meyerheim); “Return of the Pirate” (Eduard Magnus); and “Hussite Sermon.” (Lessing).
