FORESTI, fṓ-rĕs'tḗ, Eleutario Felice (1793-1858). An Italian patriot and scholar. He was born at Conselice; graduated at the University of Bologna, practiced law at Ferrara, and in 1816 was made prætor at Crespino. In 1819 he was arrested as one of the Carbonari, and was kept in prison until 1836, when he came to the United States. He was for many years professor of Italian in Columbia College, and in 1858 he was appointed United States consul at Genoa. He published an edition of Ollendorff's Italian grammar (1846), and Crestomazia italiana (1846).
