KRÜMMEL, krụm'mel, Otto (1854—). A German geographer, best known for his work in oceanography. He was born at Exin and was educated at Berlin and at Göttingen, where he was appointed docent of geography. He accepted a chair as professor at Kiel in 1883. In 1889 he accompanied the Plankton Expedition. His publications include: Die äquatorialen Meeresströmungen des Atlantischen Oceans (1877); Der Ocean (2d ed. 1902); Die Bewegungsformen des Meers (1887); Die Reisebeschreibung der Planktonexpedition (1892); and Ueber Gezeitenwellen (1897).
