MAN′IHOT. A genus of about 80 species of tall herbs and shrubs of the natural order Euphorbiaceæ, natives of tropical and subtropical South America. The best-known species are cultivated in warm climates for their underground parts, which yield a starch known in commerce as Brazilian arrowroot, and cassava (qq.v.).
