THAUSING, tou′sǐng, Moritz (1838-84). An Austrian art critic, born near Leitmeritz, Bohemia. He studied at Prague, Vienna, and Munich, and in 1868 became curator of the Archduke Albert's collection of drawings and engravings (Albertina, Vienna). In 1873 he was called to the University of Vienna as professor of art history. His publications include: Dürers Briefe, Tagebüchcr und Reime (1872); Dürer: Geschichte seines Lebens und seiner Kunst (2d ed. 1884).
