Cornell University, is located on Cayuga Lake, at Ithaca, N. Y. It was chartered in 1865 and 1867, and with ample endowment, including the income from a grant of nearly a million acres of land, it rapidly took rank with the first educational institutions of the country. It was named after Ezra Cornell, who gave a large sum toward its endowment, and whose able management was largely instrumental in placing the institution on a sound financial basis. Besides the academic department it has Colleges of Law, Medicine, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Forestry, Architecture, Civil and Mechanical Engineering. The teachers number 663, and the students 5,194.
