Cumberland Mountains are a part of the great Appalachian group, running along the southwest border of Virginia and the southeast border of Kentucky, crossing Tennessee into the northeastern part of Alabama, The ridges rarely are over 2,000 feet high, while the range is about 50 miles broad. It is the southwestern extension of the Alleghanies, and sometimes is called the Cumberland Mountain-plain.
