Joly (zhṓ′lḗ′), Sir Henry G., was born in France in 1829. He was educated at Paris, and was called to the bar in 1855. He became premier and commissioner of public works of Quebec in 1878. In 1867 he was elected by acclamation both to the Assembly and the Commons. He sat in both Houses until 1874, and remained in the Commons until 1885. He was appointed minister of Inland Revenue in 1896, in the Laurier Ministry, and later Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia. He is an authority in all matters of forestry.
