The New Student's Reference Work/Tissot, James Joseph Jacques

Tissot (tḗ sṓ′), James Joseph Jacques, an eminent French genre painter, famous for his series of 365 pictures representing the life of Christ, was born at Nantes, Oct. 15, 1836. He was educated at Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. In 1861 he painted his Rencontre de Faust et Marguerite, now in the Luxembourg. The originals are in Brooklyn’s Institute of Art. He died on Aug. 9, 1902.
