Wooster, David, an American general, was born at Stratford, Conn., March 2, 1710. He was in the naval service in command of a vessel to protect the coast in the war between England and Spain, and had command of a war vessel on the expedition to Louisburg. He was in active service during the French and Indian War, and in the Revolutionary War had command in Canada after the death of Montgomery. When the British invaded Connecticut in 1777, Wooster attacked them at Danbury and was mortally wounded on April 27, and died on May 2, 1777. Wooster, O., was named for him. A monument to him was built by Connecticut.
