Yakutsk (yȧ-ko͝otsk′), the chief town of the government of that name in eastern Siberia. It is situated on the left bank of Lena River, 5,000 miles from St. Petersburg. The whole industry of the town consists of candle-works; but it is the principal market of eastern Siberia for traffic with the native tribes of Yakuts and Buriats. Population 6,534.
