Yank'ton, So. Dak., county-seat of Yankton County, is beautifully located on the northern bank of Missouri River, near the mouth of the James. It formerly was the capital of Dakota Territory. Three lines of railway enter or pass through the city, which is also connected by steamer with various points on the Missouri. The state hospital for the insane and Yankton College (Congregational) are located here, as are also flouring-mills, a brewery and large works for the manufacttire of fine hydraulic cement. Artesian wells supply the city with pure water. Population 3,787.
