THERE WAS A MOON, THERE WAS A STAR

There was a moon, there was a star,
 There was a path, a wood;
A silent voice, a voiceless word,
 Well heard and understood:

The years crowd on, the sundering years,
 The full years fleet too soon,
Yet leave that soundless word unhushed,
 And that unwaning moon.
