Christmas Tree Airman's Beacon
A new type of airplane "beacon" was placed in operation at Roosevelt Field last night. It is an eight-foot Christmas tree illuminated with vari-colored lights and visible to aviators at a distance of several miles. It was erected atop the airplane hangar of John Hay Whitney by Carl Schneider, mechanic, and Louis Gower, a pilot.
