The death is announced of Professor George Croom Robertson, formerly Professor of Philosophy of Mind and Logic in the University College, London. He was only 50 years of age, having been born in 1842. A native of Aberdeen, he was educated at the University there, graduating M.A. in 1861, and becoming Ferguson Ethical Scholar later in the same year. He next studied in London, Berlin, Göttingen, and Paris. In 1866 he became Professor of Philosophy of Mind and Logic at University College, after acting for two years as Assistant Professor of Greek at the University of Aberdeen. He was successively Philosophical Examiner in the University of London from 1868 to 1873 and again from 1883, in the University of Aberdeen from 1869 to 1872 and from 1878 to 1881, and in the University of Cambridge, Moral Sciences Tripos, in 1877-8. Professor Croom Robertson was well known as a writer. He was the editor of and a frequent contributor to Mind, a quarterly review of psychology and philosophy, from its beginning. He joined Professor Bain in editing Grote's "Aristotle," and was the author of the volume of Hobbes in "Blackwood's Philosophical Classics" series. He also contributed to the last edition of the "Encyclopædia Britannica."
