AUTOMOBILISM.
The winner of the Automobile Grand Prix is Sisz on a Renault car. He covered the 1,238 kilomètres, 160 mètres in 12hrs. 14min. 7sec., which makes an average speed of 101 kilomètres, 200 mètres an hour. The Renault car in question had Michelin tires, and was 125-h.p. The Minister of Public Works, M. Barthou, was on the spot to-day when Sisz came in, and expressed to him and his mechanic his admiration for his heroism and courage. "The word is not too strong" he said, "and I offer you, as I have alread to M. Renault Frères, the congratulations of the Government of the Republic." Sisz was too much affected to reply, and was loudly cheered by the crowd, the ladies throwing him flowers. In the race Nazarro on a F.I.A.T. came in second and Albert Clement third. Clement was beaten by Nazarro by only three minutes. He had Dunlop tires, whereas the others had Michelin tires, and the new removable time-saving felloes.
On the whole the race has been singularly free from accidents. Jenatzy was unable to run to-day, his eyes being still sore. His place on the Mercédes was taken by Mr. Burton. Teste broke a portion of his springs while running at 150 kilomètres an hour, and the motor-car fell into the ditch ; he himself was thrown out against a tree, breaking his leg and some of his ribs. Sisz's last round was made with a broken spring. Although he had 45 minutres start he refused to have a new one put in, since the operation would have taken 20 minutes.—Our Own Correspondent.
