346879Obituary: Miss Ellen Mary Clerke1906

The death is announced of Miss Ellen Mary Clerke an accomplished writer on literary subjects. Her volume of early poems, with "The Flying Dutchmen" for its title-piece, has been for some time been out of print. Her later works bore the impress of an unusual familiarity with the language and literature of Italy, acquired during a prolonged residence in that country. Among these were "Fable and Song in Italy," published in 1899, a book of verse-translations; and a novel, "Flowers of Fire," the scene of which was laid in Naples. Miss Clerke also printed two attractive booklets on the planets Jupiter and Venus. She was the elder sister of "Miss A. M. Clerke," in The Times (1907)

This work was published before January 1, 1929, and is in the public domain worldwide because the author died at least 100 years ago.
