Kazharchingar was a Pallava king. Once he proceeded to Thiru Arur to worship Lord Thiyagaraja. His queen smelt a flower in the flower pavilion of the temple. A Saint by name Seruththunai got wild and cut her nose. The king, while informed of what had happened, said that it was the hand that gathered the flower to smell and that the hand should be cut. So saying he severed her hand. Then the king ruled for a long period, continued his devoted service to Siva and attained His Feet.
