First published in 1902 as part of "Just So Stories", where it appears after, not part of, 'The Butterfly that Stamped'. Kipling does not give the poem a title—it seems that 'True Royalty' was concocted as a title for the 'Poems That Every Child Should Know' anthology, a work which invents its own titles for a number of poems (or extracts therefrom).
