ESPOSITO, Michele, Mus. Doc (Dublin); b. Castellamare near Naples, 29th Sept., 1855; studied the piano and composition under Cesi and Serrao at the Conservatoire, Naples; went to Paris in 1878, where he remained to 1882, when he was appointed Professor of the piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin, which position he still occupies; is one of the leading teachers and concert givers in Dublin, where he established the Dublin Orchestral Society; compositions include a cantata, "Deirdre," first performed at Dublin, 1897, and subsequently at the Queen's Hall; "The Post-Bag," a light opera, produced by the Irish Literary Society at the St. George's Hall, London, 1902; he has also written an Irish symphony, string quartet, sonatas for violin and piano, and 'cello and piano, and numerous piano pieces and songs.
