MOORE, Col. Maurice George, C.B. (1902). Educ.: St. Mary's College, Oscott, near Birmingham: Sandhurst; joined 88th The Connaught Rangers, 1875; served Kaffr and Zulu Wars, 1877-79; S. African War, 1899-1902, with 1st Batt. The Connaught Rangers; was present at the battles of Colenso, Spion Kop, Vaal Krantz; commanded 1st Batt. from 7th Dec, 1900, till end of the War: served in Natal, Transvaal, O.R. Colony, cape Colony Master of Harriers, 1891-95; Member Provisional Committee and Inspector-General Irish National Volunteers, 1914-16. Pubn.: An Irish Gentleman, George Henry Moore; second son of late George Henry Moore, M.P., of Moore Hall, Ballyglass, Co. Mayo; b. 1854; m. 1889, Evelyn, dau. of John Stratford Handcock, of Carantrila Park, Co. Galway, and has issue two sons. Res.: Moore Hall, Ballyglass, Co. Mayo. Club: United Arts, Dublin.
