Teacher, St. Michan's, Halston Street, Dublin, 1912 to Easter, 1916. Commanded F. Co. 1st Bat. in North King Street and Church Street during the Easter Rising. Sentenced to death; commuted to 10 years' penal servitude; elected T.D. for S. Kerry in Dec, 1918, unopposed; re-elected May, 1921, for the proportional rep. area of Kerry and W. Limerick; Secretary with Mr. Erskine Childers to the Irish Delegation of Plenipotentiaries. One of the eight members of the Provisional Government, and Minister of Education under that Government.
