QUILL, Lieutenant-Colonel Berkeley Crosbie, C.B. (1902). Educ.: Middleton College, Co. Cork. Entered Army 1872; served over twenty-seven years in the York and Lancaster Regt.; with the 2nd Batt. in the Egyptian War of 1882; Assistant Inspector of Gymnasia, Aldershot, 1888-92; promoted Lt.-Col. 1900, and sent on special service to S. Africa; commanded 11th Batt. York and Lancaster Regt. (New Army Training Reserve), Nov., 1914 to Sep., 1916, when retired again for age. Recns.: formerly-sports of all kinds and athletics; was the first winner of the championship. Grand Army Athletic Meeting; nowadays reading, fishing, golf. Third son of late Jerome Quill, J.P., of Tralee, Co. Kerry; b. 4 May, 1852, of Irish descent, the O'Sullivan Clan, one of whom was known as O'Sullivan of the Wood (O'Sullivan Cuilhence Quill); m. 1892, Lucy (d. 1893), dau. of late Capt. J. R. Woodriff, R.N., and has issue one dau. Res.: Ballycarty, Tralee, Co. Kerry. Clubs: Army and Navy, London; Co, Kerry, Tralee.
