(According to the Announcement of the President of the House of
People's Representatives dated 4 August 2480 Buddhist Era)[2]

Being the 7th year of the present reign

Whereas the House of People's Representatives has passed a resolution that it is appropriate to change the calendar years so that they be suitable with the [present] epoch and the ancient tradition of the Thais;

Therefore, by and with the advice and consent of the House of People's Representatives, [the Monarch] gives a great royal command that an Act be enacted as follows:

Section1.This Act shall be called the "Calendar Years Act, 2483 Buddhist Era".

Section2.This Act shall come into force upon elapse of the limit of thirty days reckoned from the day of its publication in the Royal Gazette onwards.

Section3.The provisions of other laws, rules, and regulations which are already contained herein or are inconsistent herewith shall all be repealed.

Section4.A calendar year shall last for a period of twelve months, starting on the 1st day of January and ending on the 31th day of December.

The year called 2483 Buddhist Era shall end on the coming 31th day of December, and the year called 2484 Buddhist Era shall start on the 1st day of January that is to follow.

Section5.The designation of a calendar year according to the stipulations of section 4 does not affect the age of a person or a period of time which has been designated by or needs to be calculated according to a law or juristic act promulgated or formulated prior to the day of coming into force of this Act.

Section6.All the money which the public sector has to pay in each year that starts on the 1st day of April and which is paid in advance shall, if already paid in full for the year 2483 Buddhist Era prior to the coming into force of this Act, be deemed to have been paid up to the end of March 2484 Buddhist Era. As for the remaining months of the year 2484 Buddhist Era that are to follow, the competent authorities shall only pay the money for nine months, after which the payment shall be made in accordance with the calendar years.

In the event that [the money] is not paid in advance or is paid advance but has not yet been paid in full for the year, the competent authorities shall calculate and pay for only nine months the money that is to be paid for the year 2483 Buddhist Era, and [this payment] shall be deemed concluded for the year 2483 Buddhist Era. The payment following shall be calculated and made from the 1st day of January 2484 Buddhist Era and shall be made in accordance with the calendar years.

Section7.[As for] all the taxes, duties, or fees of whatever kind, which have been scheduled to be paid in the year that starts on the 1st day of April 2483 Buddhist Era, the competent authorities shall collect them in the full twelve-month amount.

As for the taxes, duties, or fees which are required to be paid in the year 2484 Buddhist Era, the competent authorities shall only collect three fourths of the whole-year amount.

Section8.The payment of any tax, duty, or fee in addition to the provisions of section 7 shall be made in accordance with the law thereon.

Section9.The Prime Minister shall have the duty to take charge of the execution of this Act.

The principle of this Calendar Years Act, 2483 Buddhist Era, is to designate a new calendar year which lasts for twelve months, starting on the 1st day of January and ending on the 31th day of December, so that it be suitable with the [present] epoch and the ancient customary practice of the Thais.

  1. King Ananda Mahidol (1925–1946 CE), who was still a minor then. Somdet Phra Chaoyuhua (Thai: สมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว), which literally translates "His Divine Majesty the Lord Over the Heads", is a title for a king not yet formally crowned.
  2. On 4 August, the year 2480 BE corresponded to 1937 CE.
