The young man looks quietly into the depths of the waves
Infernal sighs in the chest extinguish itself,
Once [he] dreams about life, then again dreams about death,
And waves hum - and hum!

He dreams about the love, who formerly loved,
And bitter tears under the eyelid suppresses itself,
He hurl himself in alluring depths of the lake
And waves hum and hum …

The little oak cross there at the bank standing
And stars over him in the blues extinguish itself,
Grey-hair mother under the cross praying,
And waves hum and hum!...
