Original Esperanto

A Last Kiss

Where are you flitting, butterfly,
   trembling and quickly?
The rose and the lily have already died,
   and the frost comes treacherously.

Your wings, as though a lamp,
   glimmer in the fog.
Whom do you seek throughout the field,
   lost one from the summer?

The gardens are deserted,
   through which your love would roam.
The verbenas seem like skeletons
   under an oak without leaves.

Why do you fly in the cold
   through the flower-filled graveyard?
On every place a rainy tear
   now lies upon the grass.

All are silent in the nests,
   and the fragrances have fainted;
you will now longer fight with evening
   over the hearts of the blossoms.

See—all that remain in the vast field
   are wilted chrysanthemums,
on which your last kiss
   will kill you, shuddering.

Vi kien flugas, papilio,
   tremante kaj rapide?
Jam mortis rozo kaj lilio,
   kaj venas frost’ perfide.

Flugiloj viaj kvazaŭ lampo
   briletas en nebulo:
vi kion serĉas tra la kampo,
   perdita somerulo?

Dezertaj estas la ĝardenoj,
   kaj vana l’ amo via.
Skeletoj ŝajnas la verbenoj
   sub laŭbo senfolia.

Vi kial flugas en malvarmo
   tra flora la tombejo?
Sur ĉiu loko pluva larmo
   nun restas en herbejo.

Silentas ĉiuj en la nestoj
   kaj svenis bonodoroj;
plu ne batalos vi kun vespoj
