נותנין פאה מתחלת השדה ומאמצעה.

רבי שמעון אומר:

ובלבד שיתן בסוף כשיעור.

רבי יהודה אומר:

אם שייר קלח אחד – סומך משום פאה,

ואם לאו – אינו נותן אלא משום הפקר.

English Translation

Leave the Peah from the beginning [of the harvest] of the field or in the middle [of the harvest].

Rabbi Shimon says:

Only give out of the final measure.

Rabbi Yehudah says:

If he has left even one stalk, he must give Peah.

And if otherwise, he is giving away his crop to the public.

Explanation

Final measure: i.e. after the full yield of the field has been measured.
